By this point, few of us find any of Rihanna’s wardrobe choices surprising. Yet we have a feeling her latest ensemble might have taken at least one person by surprise: Katie Holmes.
The singer stepped out in Sydney over the weekend wearing a cropped moto jacket and matching suede trousers by Holmes’s fashion label, Holmes & Yang. And somehow, we don’t think RiRi was the consumer Holmes and her long-term stylist/design partner Jeanne Yang had in mind when creating their “comfortable” and “simple” pieces.
The Rihanna way to wear the suede separates: styling the coat as a crop top (naturally) and pulling her pants down to expose her black undies. The Holmes & Yang way (below): Pair the jacket with a black high-waisted pants and an ivory cami, and style the suede bottoms with a demure silk tie-front blouse, for a very classic, all-American vibe.
Which is why we imagine Katie Holmes wondering how her designs got into the hands of the risk-taking popstar, who usually favors looks like this and this.

One thing we do know for sure: You need a pop star budget to afford the pricey pieces in the Holmes & Yang collection. The jacket retails for $2,400 and the pants $1,850, bringing the outfit in at over $4,000. Yup, you can buy a car with that.
What do you think of RiRi’s look? Can she pull off the Holmes & Yang ensemble? Do you think the designers would be surprised?
